Coach Miller used the entire JV roster available to him as Princeton topped a spirited and skilled Allentown JV squad that outplayed their varsity counterparts, 5-1. This was the JV Tigers’ 11th win on the season, a new PHS JV record!!! After the final whistle the Tigers rushed the field and mauled goalie Josh Berger in a celebration that matched any NCAA championship outburst. Allentown struck quickly after the game’s first face off but that would be the last time the Redbirds found the net. The Tiger D was aggressive the whole game with all the long sticks playing well (was great to see Jonah Glasgold back in action), Adam Ainslie turning in his usual solid performance, and Josh “Juice” Berger eliciting some sideline oohs and aaahs with several impressive fourth quarter saves. On the offensive end, Colin Lamb looked like the lacrosse reincarnation of Jason Kidd, assisting on 3 of the Tigers’ 5 goals. In the first quarter Lamb drew defenders and fed Dylan Johnston who scored Princeton’s first goal and then Lamb repeated the feat this time feeding Nick Sandford to make it 2-1. Jack Persico grabbed the ground ball off the first face off of the second half, advanced the ball downfield drawing the Redbird defenders, and made a nifty pass to Johnston (who must have had his Wheaties that morning) who scored the the second goal of his eventual hat trick, making the score 3-1. Then Kirby Peck emerged with the ball after a scrum at the restraining line to feed Nick Sandford who netted his second goal. The Tiger scoring ended the same way it started when Lamb stole the ball deep in the Princeton end, cleared it downfield and then passed to Johnston who buried the ball in the Redbirds’ net to make it a 5-1 record-setting 11th win. The Princeton fans were amazed at how well every player in blue performed with Tyler Nkadi almost scoring on a sneaky man up shot, and Josh Hsieh, Justin Podolsky, Dart (appropriately named given his speedy wheels) Howell and Bobby Ouyang all turning in impressive shifts at midfield. The JV Tigers have a chance to further extend their victory record with matches remaining against WWP/S and Hightstown. If you have not seen the JV team play yet, you really should try to catch them before their magical 2010 season ends.
