Double Overtime Win Over WWP/S Extends JV Victory Record

It would be difficult to imagine a more exciting ending than last year’s JV overtime comeback victory over West Windsor Plainsboro South, the highlight of  the 2009 JV season.  In that contest, the Tigers came from behind in the 4th quarter to stay alive and extend the contest so Alex Rifkin could deliver the game winner from a most atypical shot.  But this year’s JV squad is special, and after coming back from a late 2-goal deficit with less than 5 minutes left in the game, the Tigers outdid last year’s suspense when Kirby Peck buried the game winner in the SECOND overtime period. Peck got things going mid-way through the 1st quarter scoring unassisted but WWP/S knotted the score with 1:13 left in the opening period. South then took the lead on a fast break goal. In the weirdest goal of the day, Coleman Preziosi managed to get off a difficult angle shot on the crease which trickled centimeters over the goal line before the Pirate goalie could shovel it back. Score 2-2. It was the Tigers’ turn to move ahead in a game that saw 11 ties and lead changes.  Colin Lamb dished off to Rifkin just passed the midfield stripe and Rifkin dashed full throttle toward the goal unleashing a violent bounce shot in full stride passed the South goalie.  The Tigers took the 3-2 lead into the halftime break. In the middle of the 3rd quarter, South tied it 3-3, only to see Bassel Hashem assist a cutting Jasper Morgan who turned and buried the ball in the upper corner of the Pirates’ cage giving the Tigers their last lead in regular time, 4-3.  Taking advantage of a couple of  fast break opportunities South notched 3 straight goals and it looked like the JV Tigers’ 8-game win streak might come to an end.  But Hashem assisted again, this time off a move from behind the net where he passed to Preziosi who quick sticked the ball in the net. The goal which propelled the Tigers into overtime also came from Preziosi who completed his hat trick, again scoring from close range via a Nick Sandford feed. Elliot Wilson made numerous spectacular saves including a couple in the waning minutes to give the Tigers a chance at winning. The grand finale to the JV record breaking season comes on May 17th when the Tigers play Hightstown.
