Tigers Drop Heartbreaker to Notre Dame in MCT Semis, 9-1

Despite five goals contributed by Allen Bryant and three by brother Doug, PHS lost its second meeting 9-10 with the Notre Dame Irish in a see saw, hair pulling battle.  This observer had told his son that morning, “if Princeton scores 10 goals, you’ll win the game”.  Well, the Tigers did score 10 goals, at least from the premium vantage point of the higher rows at the Ewing 50-yard line stands, but for some inexplicable reason, the refs did not see the conical shape formed by the Tiger shot when it hit the back of the Irish net, allowing play to continue when the ball bounced back onto the field which then resulted in a Notre Dame goal, hence a negative 2-goal swing for the Tigers.  Showing much more calm than this fan, the Tiger laxers put that behind them and kept coming back,  erasing a 9-6 4th quarter deficit to tie the match 9-9 with approximately 4 1/2 minutes remaining.  But the refs saw fit to penalize 2 Tigers, one a non-releasable personal foul and the second an off sides call.  With some great outside shooters on the Notre Dame midfield, even the valiant Princeton D couldn’t keep the Irish from scoring their 10th goal.  As always, PHS fought back and attacked Notre Dame’s goal but the ball came loose before a shot could be fired.  Who knows whether the refs would have counted it anyway?  It was a spirited battle by both teams and, several Tigers turned in outstanding performances: in addition to the Bryants,  Zach Halliday was solid at defensive midfield, Robby Dowers was a stopper at defense and Griffin Peck made some spectacular saves.
