PHS Laxers Wrap Up Pre-Season Against Moorestown
PHS long pole Nate File Slows the Montgomery Attack
The PHS lacrosse team wraps up a challenging and largely successful pre-season with its final scrimmage against the host Moorestown Quakers. The Tigers started the 2011 pre-season on March 12th with a weekend assault at home against North Warren. Believe or not, this match was tied 1-1 in the early going before PHS pulled away for a 22-1 final score. In its second home scrimmage three days later against perennially tough neighbor Montgomery, the defense kept the Tigers in the game during the first half while some rusty Tiger stickwork and clearing mishaps gave the Cougars the vast majority of possession. In the second half the PHS offense clicked while the defense maintained its high level of play and Tigers pulled off a 7-7 tie. In the lone match of the Tigers’ Pennsylvania bonding trip, PHS notched a 6-4 scrimmage victory against a solid Cumberland Valley team. Michael Irving proved the size of your stick really does not matter as he performed with both a long pole and a short stick by netting two goals in addition to playing stellar defense. In some really nasty weather up at Rumson, the Tigers came out on the losing end of a 6-3 score that highlighted some aspects of the team’s play needing sharpening before the regular season. The Moorestown test should be a good gauge of how much the PHS laxers’ hard work has paid off as they get ready for the regular season kick off April 1st against cross-town rival West Windsor Plainsboro North at home at 4pm.
